The Bower

The Client

The Bower is an award-winning environmental charity that is committed towards reducing the amount of waste that ends up in the landfill. In order to do so, Bower runs a number of programs that involves collection of unwanted household items, undertaking repairs on pre-owned items and running educational workshops for the public to help them understand the environmental impacts of waste and how they could play an important role in reducing waste.

The Job

The Bower approached us with a vision to create an online tool or a web application that would allow members of the public to re-home or dispose an item that they no longer needed in a more sustainable manner.

The proposed web application would provide users a list of organisations based on their search criteria and location willing to accept their unwanted goods, thus reducing unnecessary items from entering the waste stream.

Prior to the development of the tool, The Bower were manually undertaking this search and providing users information as and when requested, leading to inefficiencies and wastage of human resources.

The Result

After about 8 weeks of discussions, design rounds, development work including a number of changes to the initial brief, we were able to bring their idea to life. And stakeholders at The Bower couldn’t be happier. The web application was promoted by various councils around Sydney as a part of an initiative to educate the public on how they could responsibly dispose of their waste.
