Pylon Coatings

The Client

Pylon Coatings is an Australian owned and operated coatings manufacturer based in Sydney. The company started operations in Australia in the year 1950 when the Pajor family moved to Sydney from Budapest, Hungary. The history of Pylon coatings dates back to 1871 since the Pajor family was involved in the same trade in Europe as well.

The Job

The client approached Website’s ‘N’ More in August 2016 to develop a professional, clean and classy website that complimented the company’s image as it stood, a well established Australian coatings manufacturer that developed custom paints and coatings for a range of Industries. Also, the company wanted to develop an online ordering system that allowed their trade buyers to place orders online, therefore, reducing the probability of human error and streamlining the overall order management process.

The web design and web development team approached the project in two phases,

• Website Design & Development – A responsive website was developed using WordPress as the CMS. The key points put forward by the client in the project brief included, a clean and classy web design that is easy to navigate across various devices and the use of images to showcase the final products i.e. home furniture, kitchens and other cabinets where Pylon’s range of products had been applied.

• Trade Login Section Design & Development – This phase of the project (the more interesting one!) involved designing and developing a trade login section that allowed Pylon’s clients to order products online. Each client had a unique set of products listed under their trade section as Pylon generally customises colours as per the client’s needs. A ready WordPress eCommerce plugin could not solve the purpose here therefore our team of WordPress developers had to develop a number of custom WordPress plugins to achieve the functionalities that the client wanted as a part of their trade login section.

Another challenge while developing the trade login section was designing the user-interface that allowed trade buyers to complete orders easily using particularly smaller devices such as smartphones. A majority of Pylon’s customers are tradesmen who would use the website on the go or at project sites rather than in offices.

Keeping this in mind, a three-stage ordering process was developed based on drop downs. This allowed users to easily populate their cart rather than having to scroll down a long list of items on mobile devices in order to make a selection.

The Result

The complete website along with the trade login section was developed within the timeframe that was provided to the client at the start of the project and the client was very happy with the overall results.
